Grow Together

14 Nov 2025 – 4 Jan 2026

Ground Floor Gallery

Catherine Owen-Milsom is a textile artist whose practice explores colour, pattern, and the social value of shared green spaces. She works with screen-printing to build up layered compositions that balance painterly spontaneity with careful design.

This exhibition takes inspiration from community gardening, particularly The Culpeper Garden in Islington. Developed in response to themes of food security, sustainability, and collective wellbeing, the work reflects on how communal outdoor spaces support resilience and connection. Both finished textiles and preparatory sketches are shown, revealing the research and creative process behind her joyful, impactful designs.

Catherine’s process begins with drawing and mark-making, which she translates into vibrant arrangements on fabric. By experimenting with placement, layering, and scale, she transforms sketches into bold surfaces that speak to both function and imagination. She graduated in 2023 from Loughborough University and was the winner of the Sanderson Design Group Award at New Designers 2023.

“Colour was at the heart of this collection - I wanted each piece to feel joyful and full of energy. The designs were created through layered screen printing, combining pieces with more precise registration and others with freehand movements, letting the process guide the outcome. I envisioned the textiles as both functional and expressive, with practical applications for community gardening spaces. At its core, the collection is about having access to green space and the ways it can bring people together.”
