Fluctuations

Originally from Yokohama, Japan and now working in the English countryside, Armitage creates stoneware and porcelain vessels that balance form and surface with quiet precision. Her practice draws on Japanese making traditions and the natural rhythms of her adopted landscape, bringing disciplined craft and elemental forces into
gentle dialogue.
Influenced by the idea of quantum fluctuations; the minute variations that shape all matter, Armitage explores how order emerges from randomness. Layers of stoneware and coloured porcelain are marbled, slab‑built, and hand‑carved to reveal shifting patterns within the material.
Each form becomes a quiet record of movement and change, echoing the instability, balance, and continual becoming at the core of the universe.
