Out Of Place is an exhibition of new and recent ceramic sculptures by Lotti V Closs.
Closs works with a tactile balance of intuition and intent, a form of physical thinking expressed through a direct conversation between artist and material. Her sculptures draw from personal observations and subconscious impressions, developing an internal logic that mirrors the process of their creation.
The exhibition title captures the moment of recognising when an element within an environment feels alien, unnatural, or distinct. “Out of place” touches on both lived human experience and the physical world, suggesting that inanimate objects possess a character beyond conscious design.
In recent years, Closs has adapted her meditative process, originally forged in stone carving and assemblage, to the use of clay as her primary medium. Her resulting sculptures capture moments frozen in evolution: hybrid forms that question identity and agency through the physical body.
