Steve Cook is a Lincoln-based designer, maker, and educator who works with wood veneer offcuts, materials often treated as waste. He uses this discarded material to create precise, abstract compositions. Beginning with a blueprint, he hand-cuts, rotates, and joins thin slices of timber, allowing the natural grain, tone, and pattern to guide each arrangement.
Rooted in furniture design and fine art drawing, his process balances meticulous planning with bold experimentation. By repurposing surplus veneer, Steve highlights issues of sustainability and material value, transforming what might otherwise be discarded into deliberate, geometric artworks.
90 Degrees invites us to look again at veneer, not just as a functional surface, but as a medium rich in visual, tactile, and creative potential.
