Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week at the Hub

Sun 16 May 2021

To mark mental health awareness week, we wanted to take a look back at some of the projects that we’ve had the pleasure to be a part of over the past year or so.

When we reopen tomorrow (Mon 17 May), we are delighted to showcase work from three of those projects that we hope have gone some way to highlighting, supporting or promoting good mental health.

In our window exhibition spaces, we are exhibiting work from No Wrong Way, a project with pupils from Church Lane Primary School and Nursery and the artist Charlotte Tupper, inspired by Body & Mind, our health and wellness exhibition from last year. Also on display is work created as part of Front Room Art Club, which shows artwork designed by local residents who have been isolated or shielding during the pandemic.

Our new gallery space on the ground floor also features work made in response to the pandemic and themes inspired by our exhibitions. Art Club was one an open call to members of our audience to create work to exhibit at the centre and was one of our initiatives to help keep people creative during the last year of lockdowns.

Other initiatives have included working with Church Lane Primary School to create craft kits to hand out to home schooled pupils and more recently artist Ed Boxall has been working on Rainbow Road, a creative writing and illustration project with the United Together mental health group participants.

Throughout the past year, our Hub Dance Team have continued to deliver a whole range of dance classes online, helping to keep their participants active and connected. They also devised and delivered a special series of workshops for older adults and adults with restricted mobility funded by Active Lincolnshire & Sport England.

Hopefully, you have taken part in or been inspired by some of our projects over the past few months. As a team we have been amazed by some of the incredible work and stories that you’ve shared with us and we can’t wait to welcome you all back in person soon!
