The Hub & We Are Commoners Gallery Review
Wed 6 Jul 2022
Hello, my name is Ashleigh and I have been working at the Hub for my school’s work experience for a week. I am currently studying art and I am hoping to pursue an art-based career once I finish further education. The Hub has been a friendly and welcoming place for me, as well as being a beneficial workplace, and the gallery here is truly fantastic. I recommend visiting because it is a very interesting and enjoyable space and the activities are fun and enthusiastic.
Sleaford’s iconic gallery, the Hub, is a meaningful and interesting scene. The deeper meanings behind the art movements that take place on the second floor will intrigue you. The current exhibition, “We Are Commoners” is a large and influential art movement designed to bring communities together and encourage others to be more communal. The designs are inspirational and creative, as well as a meaningful and powerful artistic campaign. Amazing artists such as Rachel Colley, Linda Brothwell and Claudia Rodriguez have shown examples of co-operative action against the privatisation of publicly owned land. Art pieces such as the ‘Nets project and ‘Fourthland, New land’ are particularly interesting and highlight acts of unity which you can read more about at the Hub. It is a remarkable exhibition, and anyone who has the opportunity should take that advantage and check it out, it won’t disappoint!
Unfortunately, this particular exhibition has a remaining week (closing Sun 10 Jul) in the gallery so I encourage you all to take a look at this inspiring display.
