Beneath the Surface: Material and Meaning
What will I learn?
Join Great Pottery Throw Down winner Rosa Wiland Holmes for an exclusive ceramics workshop exploring organic sculptural forms, as she shares the intuitive, nature-led approach at the heart of her sculptural ceramic practice.
The day begins with an introduction to Rosa’s artistic journey setting the stage for participants to develop their own ideas and visual language. Through a combination of wheel-throwing and hand-building sessions, participants rotate between demonstrations, guided practice and focused one-to-one support. The workshop culminates in a reflective discussion of the work created, with every piece fired and available to collect post workshop. Designed for beginners and intermediate makers alike, this experience offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from Rosa’s award-winning process and discover the beauty of working intuitively with clay.
Only 6 spaces are available for this workshop.
What will I take away with me?
You will be notified when your fired ceramics are available for collection.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
No, just bring yourself. If you have your own apron, you could bring this. However we have plenty if you do not.
Is it suitable for beginners?
Yes. All are welcome.
About the Artist/Facilitator
Ceramicist Rosa Wiland Holmes grew up on the Danish island of Bornholm, where the contrast of white sands and rocky cliffs shaped her lifelong fascination with nature’s forms. Originally a fashion designer, she discovered ceramics in 2014 and has been devoted to the medium ever since. After winning The Great Pottery Throw Down in 2020, Rosa began exhibiting with established galleries across the UK. A member of the Craft Potters Association, Contemporary Applied Arts, Visual Images Group and Bucks Art Weeks, she creates work that explores organic shapes, textures and colours through the interplay of clay, oxides and glazes. Her pieces celebrate contrast and imperfection, echoing the landscapes that inspire her. In her workshop, Rosa invites participants to experience her intuitive, nature-led approach to making and to discover the expressive possibilities of clay.
