Evening Series: Crafting Handmade Notebooks with Blue Stiggy

What will I learn? 

Learn how to make a Japanese stab‑bound book and a mini concertina as you fold, tear and stitch your way through simple bookbinding techniques. Over the session you’ll explore how to prepare your papers, create strong and decorative bindings, and assemble two beautiful handmade books from start to finish. You’ll leave with a pair of completed pieces, a solid understanding of the tools and materials involved, and the confidence to keep experimenting with bookmaking at home.

What will I take away with me?

You’ll take home your finished books.

Do I need to bring anything with me? 

Everything you need will be provided.

About the Artist/Facilitator 

Michaela Bere, a fashion design graduate with a love of hand stitching that has found it’s way to handstitching books.  She makes hand bound books in her Lincolnshire studio that she personalises on her vintage typewriter Dorothy.  under her company name of Blue Stiggy

She has a love for old machinery, traditional craft and a passion for using old tools and techniques that haven’t changed for hundreds of years, to make modern beautiful designs from eco conscious materials, that people want to use today.
 

Access Information - Workshop

When you enter the Hub, head to the shop reception and a Visitor Experience Assistant will be able to show you to the room.

The workshop is on the ground floor, you can see a picture of the room below.

The workshop is temperature controlled and well lit.

You are close to all toilet facilities, also on the ground floor. You will have access to two disabled toilets.

You are welcome to take drinks or snacks into the workshop if required.
